Jaguar

Jaguar is a world famous brand of luxury and sports cars and is part of Jaguar Land Rover, a company owned by Tata Motors since 2008.

The business was started by William Lyons and William Walmsley to make sidecars for motorcycles in 1922  and was called the Swallow Sidecar Company. It started to produce cars as the SS Car Ltd and produced such lovely cars as the SS 100 before World War 2.

After the war, it returned to car manufacturing (after making aircraft components) and changed its name to Jaguar. It built its reputation by making sports cars like the XK120 before producing the incomparable emblem of the swinging sixties, the E-Type.

In the mid sixties, it got sucked up into the British Motor Corporation  and then British Leyland, an amalgamation that brought together many of the famous British marques like Austin, Morris (and MG), Rover and Triumph.
